Nana, Grandpa, and Mamaw

This weekend was so much fun! Nana, Grandpa, and Mamaw made the trip down to Houston for a visit. It had been almost 2 months since we had seen them, so it was a very special treat! Davis is definitely loved by these three. It makes me so happy to see him showered with the endless supply of hugs and kisses from his grandparents. I know that he was very happy to have them visit...as were Mom and Dad!

We hung out at our place for a bit when they arrived so that everyone could get some good Davis snuggles. Then we went out for dinner and really enjoyed being able to catch up and talk in person! When we got back to our place, we got to share our bedtime routine. All of us crammed into our little bathroom for a special bath time with little man. Saturday morning we met for brunch at a cute place in West U and then headed out for a little shopping trip at Sams Club where Robert and I became members! YAY! Thank you Jeff and Lynn for all of the diapers, wipes, and baby gear for Davis and for the bottles of wine for Mom and Dad! We will all enjoy our purchases...maybe us more than him! :) We were able to enjoy some more down time getting to chat while little man took a nap before heading out to dinner again. Sadly, Robert had to go to work this morning, but I got to have one more outing for brunch before everyone had to hit the road.

We were so happy that y'all were able to come down this weekend! We cannot wait until the end of August when we get to see you again. Until then, you can count on a lot of face-time phone calls! Thank you for being with us this weekend, for all of our meals, shopping trips, and mostly for your endless love for us and precious Davis! We love you very much!

4 months

Happy 4 months little boy!

Weight: 13.9 pounds
Length: 26 inches

  • You have become so alert this month! You love sitting up (with help, although you're getting close to doing it on your own) and looking all around trying to take everything in.
  • You have started giggling more and have started to get ticklish! You laugh when Daddy tries to kiss on your neck when you feel his whiskers tickle you and you love to fly up in the air and laugh when we catch you.
  • You have started sleeping in your own room this month...I think it was much harder for Mommy to make the big step than for you. You are still sleeping like a champ every night (9-10 hours).
  • You are still wearing size 2 diapers, but have gone up to all 3-6 (mainly 6 month) clothes. Mommy had to pack away all of your newborn- 3 month outfits the other day and it was a little sad. When I look at those tiny outfits that used to be so big on you, it makes me realize how fast the time is going by, and how big you really are!
  • This month you went to your first family reunion. You got to meet all of the Schmeltekopf family and everyone there showered you with love! Can't believe that the next time you see many of them, you will be 2 years old!
  • You still love being in your swing and take some of your best naps there during the day. You also love any toy that plays music and lights up. Another toy that you have come to love is your stuffed bear. Whenever you are getting sleepy and we put Teddy in your arms, you instantly get comfortable and start to doze off.
  • You are a pro at rolling over and can go both ways (back to stomach, and stomach to back). You are very quick and try to roll over almost as soon as we lay you down somewhere. You even have started to try and roll over every time we change your diaper...making things a little bit more difficult.
  • You found your toes this month and love reaching for them, especially when you have on colorful socks.
  • EVERYTHING goes in your mouth! You have gotten very good at grabbing objects and as soon as you get your hands on something, it immediately goes up to your mouth. You are drooling a ton and soak just about every outfit you have on. Chewing on your fingers, or anything, is your favorite thing to do! :)

Schmeltekopf Family Reunion

Last weekend (Thursday-Sunday) was the biannual Schmeltekopf family reunion. It is always such a wonderful weekend catching up with all of our family members and this year was no different. I was so happy that we were able to go and were able to introduce Davis to many members of his family.
It is so crazy to think that by the next reunion, he will be 2 years old and running around with all of his cousins! Davis is the first of the next generation of our family and was loved by everyone! I don't think that Robert or I held him for any longer than 5 minutes before someone would want to scoop him up! It was great to see how much love he was getting from everyone, adults and kids.

One of the highlights of the reunion, aside from all of the wonderful conversations was the "talent show" on Saturday night. Caroline, Kate, and Claire were asking all weekend for everyone to participate and share their talents. The YMCA group did a great job (Ellie, Abigail, Maggie, Darian, Jackie), especially after they figured out which direction the "C" was supposed to go! Eric sang "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" with the help of all the kids. The best was when they said that Old MacDonald had a fish...Stephen and Carrie's kids sang 2 precious songs including the Schmeltekopf song. Uncle Don lead everyone on a bear hunt ( the story is beginning to change a bit over time). Grandmother was a hat model and Uncle David told jokes (not very many laughs...he came in last place).

Another fun time was when a small group of us went kayaking on the river. It was so peaceful and the water was very pleasant.Thank you to Jimmy and Nadine for setting that up! I was able to paddle along side of Eleanor and loved getting the chance to catch up with my sister. A pretty funny sight was when Jimmy's boat began to take on water and started sinking right in front of us only to turn around and see Chris' boat do the same thing! Overall it was a great outing; a lot of fun!

Then there was our Sunday morning church service that we have in the tiny little church onsite. Uncle Don did a wonderful job of putting together the service. One of the most special things was when the Schmeltekopf Children's Choir (complete with matching t-shirts) sang and walked down to bless baby Davis.

This was such a special weekend and reminds me of how special my family is. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people and even more, to see how much they already love our little man. 2 years seems like so long to wait to all come together again, but I'm sure the time will go by very fast!

Visit with CiCi

This weekend we had a special visitor...CiCi came in town! It was so great to see her and catch up. Little man actually started having a rough couple of days, so it was perfect timing to have a couple of extra hands.
While Mom was here, we ate out at some new restaurants (it is Houston after all- there are a ton to choose from) and got to do a little bit of shopping in Rice Village. We were even able to meet up with Uncle Dave and Jackson for dinner one night.
Davis was very happy to have CiCi here as were Robert and I. I loved getting to catch up in person and just have some special time together. Thank you so much for coming to visit us! Now it's time to plan your next trip! :)

3 months

Happy 3 months to our sweet baby boy!

Weight: 12.6 pounds
Length: 25 inches
  • You can roll over! You were very sneaky the first few times, rolling over in the middle of the night so we couldn't see you do it, but then when you were staying with Nana and Grandpa one night, you just flipped right over! Mommy and Daddy finally saw you roll over a day later and got it on video!
  • Your neck and head have gotten much stronger and as long as your back is supported, you can sit up without much help.
  • You are obsessed with your hands and putting them in your mouth! You discovered them last month, but now we can't keep them out of your mouth.
  • You have started to reach at and grab objects that are in front of you.
  • Your favorite toy is your little iPod toy that plays classical music and flashes bright lights.
  • You went for your first swim this month and love being in the water...bath time is still your favorite. I've never seen such sweet smiles!
  • You sleep 8-10 hours almost every night now...YAY!
  • You are still wearing size 2 diapers and have grown out of almost all of your 0-3 month clothes. Now into the 3-6 month outfits!
  • This month you moved from Fort Worth to Houston, Texas! You were a trooper throughout the whole moving process!
  • You also had your first vacation in Galveston. We went down for Daddy's orientation and had a great time swimming in the pool with Papa and GiGi and going to the aquarium where you loved going through the tunnel of fish.
We love seeing more of your sweet personality each week. Your smile melts everyone's hearts and we just can't get enough!

Here is a picture of you and Daddy reading your newest book...Goodnight Houston. Thank you Uncle Eric and Darian for the sweet gift! We love learning more about our new city.
