Last weekend (Thursday-Sunday) was the biannual Schmeltekopf family reunion. It is always such a wonderful weekend catching up with all of our family members and this year was no different. I was so happy that we were able to go and were able to introduce Davis to many members of his family.
It is so crazy to think that by the next reunion, he will be 2 years old and running around with all of his cousins! Davis is the first of the next generation of our family and was loved by everyone! I don't think that Robert or I held him for any longer than 5 minutes before someone would want to scoop him up! It was great to see how much love he was getting from everyone, adults and kids.
One of the highlights of the reunion, aside from all of the wonderful conversations was the "talent show" on Saturday night. Caroline, Kate, and Claire were asking all weekend for everyone to participate and share their talents. The YMCA group did a great job (Ellie, Abigail, Maggie, Darian, Jackie), especially after they figured out which direction the "C" was supposed to go! Eric sang "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" with the help of all the kids. The best was when they said that Old MacDonald had a fish...Stephen and Carrie's kids sang 2 precious songs including the Schmeltekopf song. Uncle Don lead everyone on a bear hunt ( the story is beginning to change a bit over time). Grandmother was a hat model and Uncle David told jokes (not very many laughs...he came in last place).
Another fun time was when a small group of us went kayaking on the river. It was so peaceful and the water was very pleasant.Thank you to Jimmy and Nadine for setting that up! I was able to paddle along side of Eleanor and loved getting the chance to catch up with my sister. A pretty funny sight was when Jimmy's boat began to take on water and started sinking right in front of us only to turn around and see Chris' boat do the same thing! Overall it was a great outing; a lot of fun!
Then there was our Sunday morning church service that we have in the tiny little church onsite. Uncle Don did a wonderful job of putting together the service. One of the most special things was when the Schmeltekopf Children's Choir (complete with matching t-shirts) sang and walked down to bless baby Davis.
This was such a special weekend and reminds me of how special my family is. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people and even more, to see how much they already love our little man. 2 years seems like so long to wait to all come together again, but I'm sure the time will go by very fast!
