Our sweet Davis is turning into a full toddler more and more each day. Here is a little recap of what has been going on in his life/development over the past few months.
- Weight: (at 16 months) about 25 pounds Length:
- You went for a 15 month checkup with your new doctor (Dr. Rodgers) who works at UTMB like Daddy. She is a very nice lady and you were very friendly with her. She was so impressed by you! She said she was amazed by how well you walked around and by how many words and sounds you already know! She said that you are a very smart and healthy boy...but we already knew that! ;)
- You are walking and running everywhere! The only time you slow down in when you are in your crib to sleep. You are so busy all day exploring. It is so fun to watch you get excited about moving around and discovering all the things around you.
- You have started to climb up on furniture, which is fun for you, but scary for Mommy and Daddy- especially when you get up without us seeing you (you are very quick)!
- You have started imitating words and sounds that you hear even after only hearing them once. You are quite the talker! You know all of these animal sounds: dog, cat, elephant, duck, cow, snake, monkey, fish, chicken, sheep, horse
Words you "say" (words we can understand): up, down, mama, dada, papa, nana, memaw, doc, gigi, night-night (sounds like nana), cup, water (wa-wa), keys, truck, wheels, nap, shirt (turt), socks, glasses (ga-ga), eyes, nose, ear, tooth, mouth, uh-oh, color (kuh-kuh), book (kemp), video, cheese, fruit (tute), Elmo (melmo), closed, trees, kitty (key), train, candle (ki-ki), milk, outside, circle, baby, off, flower, make-up (ka-pu), chicken, ice, noodle (odle, oldle, odle), old McDonald (a series of uh, uh, uh, uh for each syllable), chip (pip), carrot (curts), cracker (ka-ka), ball, tent, block (cock), cow, turtle, phone (tone), yeah, no, and more that I'm sure I am forgetting! - You can follow one step directions (when you choose) and understand so much of what we tell you beyond what you can say.
- You have a bit of a temper when you start to get sleepy and don't get what you want right away. You will sometimes flail to the ground and even try to bite if you are really frustrated. Having all of your molars coming in doesn't help. Teeth- you have a mouth FULL of teeth and love to brush them!
- You are still napping twice a day and eating "big people" food. No more baby cans! You love macaroni and cheese, potatoes, chicken, green beans, noodles, raspberries (your favorite fruit), carrots, and so much more. We have completely taken away all bottles...it was much harder for Mommy and Daddy to do this as we had to face that you're not a baby anymore. You are still a great sleeper at night- sleeping 11 hours straight almost every night.
- We have been using our membership to Moody Gardens a lot since moving to Galveston and your new favorite part is the splash-pad at Palm Beach. As soon as we get there you start squealing to get down and run into the water! Arms start flailing and you are full speed straight into the water. You even love going down the big slides in Mommy's lap (you even try to escape from me and go down yourself)! You still love to go to the aquarium and have started to take interest in the fish, but mostly just love to run laps all around the building!
- You have such a big, fun personality! You are a very happy little boy and it is so much fun seeing you laugh and get excited about everything around you. You have recently discovered a love for all things "Elmo." Mommy has a app on her phone where you can call Elmo and I will occasionally pull up a video for you to watch, so now when you see my phone, you will pick it up and start saying "Elmo!" You love to have anyone's phone and will hold it up to your face as you walk around talking on it. Mommy needs to start watching how much she talks on it when I'm around you because you have started imitating what you hear...as the phone is to your face you will say "yeah, yeah, yeah..." You also still have a love for keys and will go searching for them in any purse you see that you can reach. You will even ask to be picked "up" when someone is standing by the table where we keep them, so that you can reach them. You are very smart!
- The other loves of your life right now are trucks, (STILL) closing doors, and playing peek-a-boo. Anything that has wheels on it is a truck to you. You love to look at them and touch them. You love books about trucks, toy trucks, real trucks...you LOVE trucks!! You also still love to close and open doors. You have started to love to play peek-a-boo and will hide inside the island of our kitchen and close the doors completely and wait for us to open them and say "boo!" You also love to run into your room and hide behind your crib. You giggle when we say "where's Davis" and make a "pssst" sound and then run out into our arms saying "boo!"
- You are very silly and dance to Daddy's beat-boxing noises he makes and love to spin around and around in circles. You will even start running to us from across the room with your arms stretched out and eyes closed as you laugh and fall into our arms.
- You have loved playing in the yard at our new house. You love to help Mommy water the plants, and even more when we let you play in the hose in the yard. It puts a huge smile on your face.
