What a wild month it has been! The first week of June marked out last week as Fort Worth residents. Thank you to Dad and Judy for hosting a wonderful send off party for our little family. It meant so much to have all of our family and close friends there to share their love and support for us as we made our big journey. The rest of that week was pretty tough. I kept wanting to see everybody "just one last time" before we made the move, and we tried to eat at some of our favorite local spots before our final day in town.

Then it was finally time! Robert picked up the U-haul on Monday, June 10th. He got the size that they guaranteed would fits 2-bedroom house...yeah right! We filled it up as much as we could and loaded 3 other cars full of extra stuff and hit the road on Tuesday morning, June 11th. Jeff drove the U-Haul, Robert drove his car with Witten riding along in the front seat, Lynn drove her car, filled to the max, and my mom drove my car while I sat in the back with little man (who was an EXCELLENT traveler this time)! We moved in with their help Tuesday and Wednesday and have been slowly making our new place feel like "home."
We have been having a great time learning our way around our new
neighborhood (West University-Rice Village area). We love all of the
shops and restaurants and are just amazed at how many there actually
are! This city is HUGE! Davis has been a trooper and even though it is
very humid and hot, he still loves being outside.
Last weekend, Davis and I joined Robert in Galveston where he had been for residency orientation. My dad and Judy came down for the weekend to visit us. We had such a great time with them! We stayed at Moody Gardens and had a blast. Davis loved being in the pool with Papa! I love seeing him with his grandparents...all of them (everyone else needs to make the trip down)! I know that he loves you all so much already because of how much you all love him! Thank you Dad and Judy for such a great Family "Trip." :)
Robert and I took Davis to the Moody Garden's Aquarium after one of his days of orientation. It is a great aquarium. Galveston definitely beats Fort Worth in that category! He slept through the first half of our visit, but woke up when we started to walk through the tunnel where the fish swim all around you. He was fascinated by it all!
We are now back in Houston...back home and lucky for Davis and me, Robert doesn't have to start work until the 7th! One more week of family play time (and unpacking) before the real world starts again. Mom is coming down tomorrow for a couple of days and we can't wait to see her.
I will try to get in a better habit of posting updates now that we are more settled. While it feels great to be in a bigger place, out of boxes (mostly), and in a fun new area, we still miss parts of Fort Worth. We talked last night about hopefully planning a trip back in August.
Upcoming: Schmeltekopf family reunion! July 11-14th! :)
